MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The West Virginia University tennis team will travel to Iowa State to take on the Cyclones on Saturday, March 11, at the Life Time Fitness center in Urbandale, Iowa. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. ET/ 2 p.m. CT.
“We are excited to start the Big 12 season this weekend,” said fourth-year coach Miha Lisac. “It’s been a long process getting us ready and prepared for the conference opponents and now we are looking to have a good start to the conference season.”
West Virginia heads into the match with a 4-6 overall record after dropping a 4-3 decision to Indiana last Saturday. The Mountaineers were able to win all three doubles matches, but the Hoosiers rallied to claim four of the six singles matches. Junior Habiba Shaker
and freshman Sofía Duran earned wins in singles play.
Shaker leads WVU with a 7-3 overall record at No. 1 singles. The tandem of sophomore Paula Goetz
and junior Yvon Martinez
pace the Mountaineers with a 4-2 record in doubles play.
Iowa State enters the weekend with an 11-2 overall record, including an eight match win streak after claiming a pair of victories against Augustana (4-1) and Sioux Falls (7-0) on March 4. The Cyclones face Wyoming on Friday, before Saturday’s matchup with the Mountaineers.
The matchup will be the sixth meeting between the two conference foes. WVU is searching for its first win in the series on Saturday.
